G2E adds prediction markets to the central stage to address the sector's rise

• Prediction markets are outlined as one of the main challenges commercial and tribal gaming face today

The Global Gaming Expo will be adding a new main stage session focused fully on prediction markets, and specifically on the industry’s opposition to the sector’s growing momentum.

With projections pinning the total trading handle at 21% of all "betting" that goes down on the National Football League (NFL) in 2026/2027, there have been calls to start pushing back against the sector.

Notably, the American Gaming Association (AGA) has forecasted that the NFL sports betting handle will be flat year over year due to prediction markets, accusing prediction market platforms of operating illegally.

AGA President and CEO Bill Miller has released a statement, commenting on the expansion with a prediction market-focused session as part of the G2E main stage:

"Collaboration both across and beyond the industry is critically important in preserving and protecting the state- and tribal-regulated gaming market, its employees, consumers, and the communities we serve. In the midst of prediction markets' brazen encroachment, our panel of leaders will showcase the strength of our unity."

Miller will appear alongside other prominent prediction market critics and industry insiders, to wit Gwen Mills, Unite Here President, Rodney Butler, Mashantucket Pequot Chairman, and Nevada Rep. Steven Horsford.

Mills also commented on the participation of various stakeholders, united around the idea of tackling the prediction market sector, which, opponents argue, has been skirting gaming laws while leaning heavily into the vertical.

"This is a pivotal moment to come together as a coalition to face an unprecedented challenge. Prediction markets are threatening the livelihoods of casino workers throughout the country. Our members are casino housekeepers, bartenders, servers, cooks, and dishwashers. Together with responsible gaming employers, we have built a union standard with high wages, access to affordable health insurance, and the ability to retire with dignity. We are now united for a common goal – upholding tribal, state, and federal law and protecting jobs," Mills added.

Rep. Horsford raised the issue of jobs, arguing that prediction markets were "gambling dressed up as innovation."

"My bipartisan Prediction Markets Are Gambling Act stops federally regulated trading platforms from hiding sports betting and casino-style gambling behind the label of 'financial products.' You don't get to claim the benefits of the gaming industry without playing by its rules," Rep. Horsford added.

In the official release, the organizations outlined prediction markets as one of the most significant challenges that state and tribal gaming operators face. While regulators and litigation are taking place, stakeholders are gathering their resources to issue a collective response to this new challenge.

The session, called A United Front: Confronting Prediction Markets Together, is set to take place on Tuesday, September 29, at 1:00 pm.
