The leading global sports betting and gaming operator, Flutter Entertainment plc, announced plans for a leadership change on Friday. The operator revealed that its Group Chief Financial Officer, Jonathan Hill, will take a new position as Group Chief Operating Officer (COO). The appointment will be in effect as of next year and will seek to boost the company's global growth strategy.
At the same time, Flutter revealed that its current Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Group Head of Strategy at InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), Paul Edgecliffe-Johnson, will be changing his position to CFO and Executive Director of the Group. This change is expected to be completed in the first half of next year, according to Flutter.
Hill will keep his current position until Edgecliffe-Johnson takes over. However, the duo will collaborate to ensure the seamless transfer of responsibilities. Once the transfer of responsibilities is completed, Hill will leave the Group's Board and then take the newly created role of Group COO.

In a statement released on October 21, 2022, Flutter's Chair, Gary McGann, said: "The Board welcomes the appointment of a quality executive such as Paul and looks forward to working with him and the team into the future, and I look forward to continuing to work with Jonathan in his new role."
Overall, Edgecliffe-Johnson has more than 25 years of experience as a part of international companies. Besides being CFO and Group Head of Strategy at IHG, since 2014, he has been a member of the Board and Executive Committee member. His professional background includes an Associate Director, Corporate Finance position with HSBC as well.
Commenting on the recent changes, Peter Jackson, Flutter's CEO, added: "I am delighted that Paul will join us next year as Group CFO." He pointed out that Edgecliffe-Johnson has the needed skill and experience to drive Flutter's growth and help the company execute its strategy successfully.
In conclusion, Jackson added: "I also wish to acknowledge Jonathan for all he has done for Flutter to date and I am very pleased that the Group will continue to benefit from his experience in establishing the new COO function."
