Fernando Vieira steps down from IBJR role

• Fernando Vieira was appointed nearly a year ago as an executive president of the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming
• Only recently, the Institute confirmed that Vieira has taken the decision to step down from the role
• Until a new executive president is appointed, André Gelfi, one of IBRJ's founders, director and board member, will hold the role of interim president

The institute, bringing together leading betting and online gaming operators in Brazil and across the globe, the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming (IBJR), confirmed it has initiated a process of leadership transition.

The latest announcement comes at a time when IBJR's executive president, Fernando Vieira, confirmed his intention to step down from the senior-level role.

The executive president spearheaded IBJR's efforts

Vieira joined the organization nearly a year ago. During his term as executive president, he played a major role in the fight against illegal gambling in Brazil.

Moreover, Vieira contributed to IBJR's efforts for expanding responsible gambling, bringing together the regulated gaming sector and establishing a sustainable market.

The outgoing executive president spoke on the matter, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.

"It was an honor to lead IBJR at this historic moment of regulation. Our fight for the consolidation of the licensed betting market by the Federal Government and against the illegal market was intense and brought important achievements," he said.

Moreover, Vieira pointed out: "I am proud of the role we played in protecting consumers and strengthening the sector’s credibility. I remain confident that the entity will continue to advance in this mission."

IBJR names interim president

According to the Brazilian Institute of Responsible Gaming, the outgoing executive president will "pursue a new professional opportunity in another sector."

As a result, the organization has already initiated a search for a new executive president who would succeed Vieira.

During the transition period, the IBJR has selected André Gelfi, who currently holds the role of director and board member, to serve as an interim president.

Gelfi is, in fact, one of the founders of IBJR.

Having two primary goals: to promote responsible gambling and combat illegal gambling, the institute was established in 2023 by leading betting firms.

Recognizable gaming and entertainment companies, including Entain, Flutter Brazil, BetMGM, Betsson Group and Kaizen Gaming, among others, are among IBJR's members.
