Entain veteran Barry Gibson has been inducted into the SBC Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place at the recently concluded SBC Summit in Lisbon, and the event also marked the end of Gibson’s stint as Entain Group’s Chair, taking his leave from the company.
The induction ceremony was hosted by SBC Managing Director Andrew McCarron and was part of the SBC Leaders Summit, which was held alongside the SBC Summit, and reunited 500 industry C-level executives, including company bosses, at the Myriad By Sana hotel.
Commenting on this opportunity, Gibson said that he was honored to be joining the club of outstanding individuals.
"Over the years, it has recognized some truly remarkable individuals, and I’m grateful to now be in their company as I step away from the industry. Hopefully, I’ve left behind a few valuable lessons along the way—that’s what really counts. It’s been an amazing journey, and I sincerely thank SBC for taking the time to honor me in such a special way," he added.
McCarron was similarly pleased to see Gibson inducted into the Hall of Fame, which was launched in 2016, and has added a number of exemplary industry professionals to its ranks over the years, among whom are various founders and CEOs of businesses from all over the industry.
McCarron said that it was a privilege to have an iconic industry insider such as Gibson join. "His leadership has undeniably left a lasting impact on this industry and the countless individuals fortunate enough to have worked alongside him," he spoke highly of the man.
Gibson’s professional career is nothing to sneeze at. His stint as Chairman at Entain began in February2020 when the company was undergoing a difficult transition, away from past mistakes and through a tense leadership change and rebranding designed to reimagine the company’s purpose.
He was instrumental in not just returning the company to its core principles and newly set commitments, but also in instilling a corporate culture that prioritized such important pillars as player protection and responsible gambling. Gibson used his clout to steer Entain fully out of unregulated markets and backed difficult but necessary leadership decisions that required grit to enact.
He is succeeded at Entain by Stella David, who will serve as the new Chairwoman of the Board.
