Commenting on the arrival of the latest edition, EGBA Secretary General Maarten Haijer said that he was very happy with the opportunity to see his organization support a seminal event such as ESGW23. He said that the entire organizaiton, and its members, were fully committed to promoting a culture of safer gambling and the upcoming event is an opportunity to see a team effort across all of Europe dedicated to raising awareness and standards for safer gambling.

"The initiative provides a fantastic opportunity for Europe’s gambling sector to come together to promote an issue of common importance: safer gambling," Haijer said. The current edition of the event is being hosted by a partnership of 15 European online gambling associations which will allow for ESGW23 and its message to reach more people. The event will also seek to beget closer collaboration between businesses and researchers who are interested in improving the industry for all.

This year’s edition features organizations from the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Gibraltar, Ireland, and others. The International Betting Integrity Association, which operates globally, has also vowed its support for the event and will be one of the organizing partners for the upcoming event.

EGBA has been particularly active when it comes to promoting safe and responsible gambling across Europe. The organization has pushed for clearer rules on a range of issues, from safer gambling to anti-money laundering. EGBA has been keen to tackle crime that emanates from the illegal gambling sector by empowering he regulated industry and ensuring that consumers are well-informed, protected, and making the right calls.

EGBA itself has been embarking on a variety of initiatives designed to elevate safer gambling standards by sending personalized messages to Europeans, with more than 20m such messages sent in 2022. Responsible gambling has been a particularly important aspect of regulated gambling in Europe.

The continent consists of many jurisdictions that usually regulated gambling, and set responsible gambling standards on their own. However, some common practices and golden standards have emerged.
