Boyd Gaming has purchased through Boyd Interactive for an undisclosed amount Resorts Digital, the online and interactive operations of the famous Resorts Casino, an iconic Atlantic City venue.

Boyd Interactive seals the deal for Resorts Digital

Boyd Gaming has not hidden its ambitions about securing a large swathe of the iGaming market in the United States which has consistently proved one of the top-performing verticals to explore at a relatively low operational cost and fairly large and consistent profit margin.

In a statement, the company said that New Jersey has long been one of the leading iGaming states in the country and that further expanding Boyd’s presence in the Garden State would only help consolidate its status as one of the go-to operators in this vertical.

While Resorts casino has been itself struggling to generate a massively impressive figure – only $109m from its brick-and-mortar operations, the company has enjoyed a solid windfall from its iGaming division, bringing in some $573m in the first eight months of the year in revenue.

Resorts Digital also raked in $9.6m in gross operating profit in the first six months of 2024, an improvement in 2023’s half-year resorts. The land-based property in the meantime managed to eke out a mere $355,000 during the same period.

Resorts confirmed that the deal was already sealed, with the purchase finalized at the beginning of September, as confirmed by Mark Giannantonio, Resorts President, who the Associated Press cited.

Boyd Interactive has now brought two new brands under its roof, with ResortsCasino.com and MoheganSunCasino.com passing under Boyd Gaming’s banner.

Tapping into possible synergies and long-term prospects

Giannantonio spoke confidently about the deal’s long-term prospects, noting that the acquisition would help Boyd Interactive scale up its offer and help establish ResortsCasino.com as an even more impressive online gaming brand.

Meanwhile, the Resorts and Resorts Digital brands will not necessarily divorce. Resorts Digital, now under Boyd Gaming’s stewardship, will continue to promote the land-based operations whereas Resorts Casino will continue to push ResortsDigital.com onto anyone who has a soft spot for iGaming.

Last year, Resorts Digital signed a deal with Enteractive to level up player engagement and ensure that it achieves better results from engaging with players. The company similarly teamed up with Nuvei to boost its payment solutions.
