The most anticipated American football championship game of the National Football League (NFL), Super Bowl LIX, will see the Philadelphia Eagles face the Kansas City Chiefs.

The game, scheduled to be played on February 9, 2025, is expected to attract more than a billion legal wagers, the American Gaming Association (AGA), the premier national trade group representing the US gambling industry, estimates.

Super Bowl wagers are expected to set new record this year

On Tuesday, the Association revealed in a press release that it estimates a record $1.39bn to be wagered through legal operators on Super Bowl 2025.

Per AGA's estimate, the record figure highlights the ongoing growth of the legal sports betting vertical across the country.

At the same time, the billions that would be wagered are undoubtedly a testament to the popularity of the Super Bowl and the acceptance of Americans to place a wager on the beloved competition.

Since PASPA was struck down by the US Supreme Court in 2018, a total of 38 states, as well as D.C. offer legal sports betting options.

The legal markets grant millions of Americans the option to place a wager with a regulated operator. At the same time, the legal sector helps safeguard the well-being of the customers through responsible gambling tools.

AGA reaffirmed its dedication to "fostering a thriving legal market that promotes responsible gaming, safeguards consumers, and supports long-term economic growth."

This is why the Association confirmed that it will join forces with Mark Ingram II, the American former professional football player, college football analyst and responsible gaming ambassador, for the upcoming Super Bowl LIX.

The collaboration will see Ingram appear on behalf of AGA's Have A Game Plan. Bet Responsibly. campaign on Radio Row.

The efforts of the recognizable football pundit will focus on encouraging bettors to bet responsibly and legally on the upcoming Super Bowl.

The high interest in wagering on the Super Bowl reaffirms the growth of the legal market

Bill Miller, AGA's President and CEO, shared his excitement about the record sum that is expected to be wagered on the upcoming competition.

"No single event unites sports fans like the Super Bowl, and that excitement extends to sports betting, with this year's record legal handle reflecting its widespread appeal," the executive revealed.

Finally, Miller said: "This figure underscores the positive impact of the legal market—from protecting consumers to generating tax revenue that benefits communities across the country—while enhancing the game experience for all."

Data from AGA's 2024 American Attitudes Survey highlights the growing approval of sports betting by Americans.

Per the survey, some 90% of the respondents recognized wagering on sports as a suitable form of entertainment.

On the other hand, a solid 75% of Americans supported legal and regulated sports betting within their home state.
