NFL insider reveals where the blame is falling for Chargers' slow start

Three weeks have passed since the 2026 National Football League (NFL) season kicked off.

After a slow start to the season,the Los Angeles Chargers’offense is under scrutiny, and attention is focused on Mike McDaniel, the team’s offensive coordinator.

That’s according to the award-winning NFL reporter, analyst, and insider, Jason La Canfora.

"The Chargers, they’re not going to fire Jim Harbaugh, and no one’s talking about that after a 0-2 start. But boy, are they talking about offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel," the insider said in an exclusive interview for Casino Guru News.

As the Chargers struggle to generate consistent production, quarterback Justin Herbert is also in the spotlight, according to the analyst.

"Justin Herbert’s playing bad football right now. And I had a general manager and a former general manager I talked to this week. Both say that Justin Herbert’s leadership skills should be called into account here," La Canfora continued.

Focusing further on Herbert, the insider and analyst said League execs are raising concerns about his ability to perform under pressure, while also arguing that a quarterback from such a franchise, who is also being paid "this kind of money," is expected to help elevate the team during difficult periods.

According to La Canfora, Mike McDaniel, the Chargers’ new offensive coordinator, is subjected to scrutiny.

"He does not come from the Jim Harbaugh coaching tree. It’s rare that Jim Harbaugh goes outside his coaching tree to bring in a coach, especially one as a philosophically different as McDaniel is, as personality different," the insider and analyst explained.

La Canfora predicted that if the Chargers’ offense doesn’t improve or the team produces explosive plays, there may be changes affecting the team.

"As McDaniel is, if Justin Herbert and this offense don't turn it around and get explosive real quickly, whether McDaniel is just stripped of his duties or McDaniel's fired, or there's a quiet rearranging of the duties there; or there's an explicitly announced rearranging of the duties there, something's going to have to change real quickly for the Chargers or the way they're calling plays and running plays on offense will," said La Canfora in conclusion.
