One fortunate woman celebrated New Year's Eve without even realizing that she had won a life-changing prize.
That's the story of a woman from Hackham, an outer metropolitan suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, who holds the single division one winning prize in the country from the Powerball drawing 1545 from Christmas.
The lucky woman purchased her winning entry at Colonnades Lotto Kiosk, Shop KI104 Noarlunga Centre on 54 Beach Road in Noarlunga Centre.
Draw 1545 from Thursday, December 25, 2025, saw winning numbers 7, 23, 29, 20, 11, 16 and 17, along with the most important Powerball number 17 drawn.
As the single division one winning entry in Australia, the ticket held by the South Australia woman is entitled to the entire AU$20m ($13.4m) jackpot.
Interestingly, the winner was completely oblivious about the life-changing win before Friday this week.
While the woman heard that the AU$20m ($13.4m) ticket had been sold, she admitted that she didn't check if she held the winning entry, nor was she expecting to win the hefty prize "in a million years," she said during an interview with an official from The Lott.
The winner didn't register their entry with The Lott Members Club. Had the woman registered her entry, an official from The Lott would've notified her of the big win.
However, in her case, the Lottery had to wait for the winner to come forward.
Speaking to a lottery official, the woman was incredibly excited after she was told that the prize was real, saying: "My hands are shaking! I can’t believe it!"
"Honestly, you often wonder what people feel like when they win this much money. It’s incredible. I’m shaking like a leaf," the winner added.
The lottery player admitted that she didn't have a clue that she held the AU$20m ($13.4m) winning entry before checking her ticket only recently.
"It’s been in my purse the whole time, but I had a lot going on this week so hadn’t got around to checking it," the Hackham woman admitted.
Unlike some jackpot lottery winners who are ready to spend on luxury and needless purchases, this Powerball jackpot winner intends to give back.
The Hackham woman said that she will give money to some of her favorite charities, while also helping her family.
"A lot of people could do a lot of good with this money. I always like to give where I can, no matter what amount. Now I can give a little more," she added.
Last but not least, the winner admitted that the Powerball jackpot is like a dream come true.
