A lottery player in Maryland shouted with excitement while at work after she was told she had won a hefty second-chance prize.
The name of the lucky player is Shari Hunt-Caldwell, a Glen Burnie resident, who recently scored a $100,000 Holiday Second-Chance Promotion prize, Casino Guru News learned from a press release from the Maryland Lottery.
Describing herself as an avid scratch-off player, the fortunate woman admitted that she often registers non-winning lottery tickets into My Lottery Rewards in hopes of winning a second-chance prize.
This is exactly what happened to Shari who failed to check whether she won a prize on December 4, 2024, but was surprised when a Lottery official called her to inform her of the $100,000 win.
The Glen Burnie resident wanted to keep the big news a secret and organized a family meeting.
Nobody knew what the meeting was about, not even the winner's husband, Darryl.
Shari wrote $100,000 on pieces of paper and handed them to all of her family members.
Everyone was told to open the pieces of paper simultaneously.
Recalling the exciting moment, Darryl said: "I had to wait for someone else to open their paper to find out the news. It was great."
Recently, Shari visited the Lottery headquarters to claim her prize.
Sharing her excitement, the 61-year-old woman said: "I never had that many zeros in my bank account."
When asked by Lottery officials if she had any plans regarding the unexpected windfall, the woman admitted that she didn't.
Still, Shari said that she will likely explore home improvement options and pay some bills.
Asked about the day she was contacted with the good news by the Maryland Lottery, the woman said: "I started screaming at work. It was unbelievable."
The latest win isn't the first second-chance prize for the Glen Burnie woman.
Back in 2023, Shari participated in a promotion for the Baltimore Ravens that brought her club-level season tickets for one year.
The final drawing of the Holiday Second-Chance Promotion in Maryland is scheduled to take place on January 16, 2025.
This is when one winner will take home $100,000, while five prizes of $5,000 each will also be awarded.
