Thai soldiers rescue wild animals from Cambodian casino

Five wild animals, found at a bombed Cambodian casino near its border with Thailand, were recently found by Thai marine forces and rescued.

The special operation taking place at the Thmor Dar Casino area comes at a time when the border conflict between Thailand and Cambodia is looming.

Starving animals in cages were rescued

The operation took place last week, as announced by the local media outlet, The Nation Thailand.

Units with the Trat Marine Special Task Force arrived at the Thmor Dar Casino area to secure it and made an unexpected discovery.

The soldiers found a total of five wild animals, kept in cages at the aforementioned venue.

This included one sun bear, two male Asiatic black bears, as well as two lions, one male and one female.

After the unexpected discovery, the Trat Marine Special Task Force immediately contacted the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plan Conservation (DNP), requesting them to assist with the rescue of the wild animals.

Atthapol Charoenchansa, DNP's Director-General, explained that all five wild animals were in critical condition.

The animals, according to the Director-General, didn't have sufficient food or water, leaving them excessively thin.

According to Charoenchansa, the ribs of the animals were visible, which means they have been neglected and left without food and water for a significant time.

When DNP officials arrived at the Thmor Dar Casino site, they examined the wild animals.

Considering the critical condition of all animals, the experts determined that sedating them may be fatal.

This is why they gave the animals vitamins and continued to monitor their vital signs.

In the end, all five wild animals were rescued with the help of DNP officials and marines, who were able to carry the cages.

The two lions were sent to the Khao Son Wildlife Breeding Station located in Ratchaburi, while the three bears were taken to the Bang Lamung Wildlife Breeding Station in Chon Buri.
