Retirement
  • The elderly man has said that the time has come for him to throw in the towel and retire
  • This comes after the septuagenarian won $1.35m from the Michigan Lottery
  • No more details were provided about who the man was or what else he intended to do with the money

A 76-year-old man from Michigan has much to be happy about after he snagged the eye-watering $1.35m from the local lottery.

The Great Lakes resident has said that enough is enough and that he now plans to retire with a significant cash cushion to fall back on.

While details about the man’s identity are not immediately available, and the winner opted to stay anonymous, the Michigan Lottery said that the person had won playing the Diamond Wild Time Progressive Fast Cash game.

The lottery also secured a quote from the lucky devil, who was more than happy to explain how he came into the possession of the winning entry.

"I saw the Fast Cash jackpot was over $1 million, so I bought a ticket. I looked the ticket over when I got home and saw a match with ‘Jackpot’ underneath, but I had to scan the ticket on the Lottery app to double-check it. I was so happy and excited when the scanner confirmed my $1.35 million win!"

However, this is not the full jackpot that the game could have paid, as the total at the time was $2.7m, so the player scooped about half of that amount. The jackpot has now soared to more than $1.7m, giving other jackpot hopefuls all the more reason to try their hand at winning the prize themselves.

As to the entry cost, Fast Cash games usually cost anything between $2 and $30 per play, based on the Michigan Lottery’s price catalogue.

Feel-good lottery stories have been all over the place lately. A player who forgot to register his ticket with the Oz Lotto in Australia won AU$20m just this week, with the lottery reminding the unknown winner that they have six years to claim their prize.

Another story came from Maryland earlier this year, when a player nearly missed his $2m payout, but won its MONOPOLY X200 scratch-off.
