Powerball jackpot grows, becomes one of the largest in history

• On Wednesday, nobody was fortunate enough to score the $794m Powerball jackpot, one of the largest in the history of the game
• The jackpot is estimated to hit $856m for the game’s next drawing
• If won on the next Powerball drawing, planned for Saturday, the jackpot would go down as the eighth largest in the history of the game

During the Powerball drawing on Wednesday, one of the largest jackpots in the history of the game was up for grabs.

After nobody matched all winning numbers to take down the jackpot, it will continue to grow even bigger until the next drawing when players will have another shot at taking down the top prize.

Powerball jackpot survives recent draw

The latest Powerball drawing was held on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.

On that day, white balls 14, 20, 59, 60, 61 and red Powerball number 25 were drawn.

Interestingly, nobody beat the odds of 1 in 292.2m to win the Powerball jackpot which was a estimated $794m at the time.

The cash option for the top prize on Wednesday was $345.2m.

Had somebody won the Powerball jackpot on the latest drawing, they would’ve taken home the game’s ninth largest prize.

Not only did nobody win the jackpot prize but at the same time, a single ticket matched five white balls to take home a $1m tier-two Powerball prize.

Stephen Durrell, Powerball Product Group Chair and Kansas Lottery Executive Director, spoke about the growing jackpot from Powerball, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.

"The last time we saw a Powerball jackpot of this size was on Christmas Eve, with a $1.817bn prize on the line," he explained.

Moreover, Durrell pointed out: "But throughout the past year, we’ve had five Powerball jackpots won by players in seven different states, which goes to show a winning $2 ticket can be sold anywhere."

Eighth largest Powerball jackpot up for grabs on Saturday

Surviving on Wednesday, the Powerball jackpot is now an estimated $856m for the game’s next drawing on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

In case a fortunate player scores the jackpot on that game drawing and they select a cash option, they can collect a sum of $372.0m.

Otherwise, the entire $856m jackpot can be collected via annuity payments.

The estimated Powerball jackpot for the upcoming drawing makes it the eighth largest in the history of the game.

The game’s largest jackpot ever, the astronomical $2.04bn top prize, was won on November 7, 2022, in California.

The last time the Powerball jackpot dropped was on May 2, 2026.

At the time, two tickets, one purchased in Florida and one in Texas, split the game’s $20m top prize.

Since then, more than 40 consecutive Powerball drawings have not produced a jackpot winner.
