A $20 scratch-off ticket purchase resulted in a life-changing multi-million-dollar lottery prize.
That’s the case for one Kent County man, who scored one of the top prizes from the Michigan Lottery’s $2,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier game.
The incredibly fortunate player stopped for gas and decided to try his luck with a scratch-off ticket.
He made the purchase at Clyde Park Fuel at 2354 Clyde Park Avenue Southwest in Grand Rapids.
Interestingly, the winner initially played a $2 instant game but after winning $20, he decided to go back and try his luck again.
The player, who chose to remain anonymous, admitted that he usually doesn’t play $20 games.
The man even considered buying two $10 tickets with the $20 he had just won.
However, he said that once he saw the $2,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier, he decided to go with it.
"I scratched the ticket when I got in my car and went into shock when I saw how much I’d won," the Kent County man added.
"I don’t think it’s going to fully hit me that I won $2 million until I cash the check," the fortunate winner added.
The player visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his newfound fortune.
Instead of annuity payments for the full amount, the lucky man chose a one-time, lump sum payment of approximately $1.3m.
Asked about his plans for his winnings, the man said he will go on vacation, buy a house and save what’s left.
The Michigan Lottery introduced the $2,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier in February.
Each $20 ticket grants players a chance to win a prize between $20 and $2m.
After the most recent top prize win, now, two more $2m prizes each remain in play.
On the other hand, players can also win a tier-two prize of $10,000 and there are 16 of those in play.
A tier-three prize from the $2,000,000 Bonus Scratch Multiplier awards $2,000 and there are 196 such prizes for grabs.
So far, players across Michigan have won more than $21m from the popular scratch-off ticket.
