A couple had been spending $1 per week to play the Lotto 47 game for years, until good fortune struck. The pair secured the February 21 drawing of the game, bringing in a $3.98 million jackpot after years of repeating the same weekly ritual, and sometimes even forgetting to check in on their tickets for days.
Not this time, though, as the couple was tipped by friends and family who, upon discovering that the winning ticket had been sold in Tuscola County, and familiar with the couple’s lottery habit, hurried to remind them to check their ticket.
They were correct, as the couple had indeed won the seven-figure prize with the numbers 17, 25, 34, 37, 39, and 42. Commenting on this important event, the 63-year-old player who chose to stay anonymous had this to say:
"My husband and I have been playing Lotto 47 every week for years. The day after the drawing, we got a text from a family member that said a Lotto 47 jackpot-winning ticket was sold at Bryan’s Market and asked if we were the big winners. Bryan’s Market is where we happened to buy our tickets that week, but we thought the odds that we were actually the big winners were slim."
The ticket technically belongs to the wife, who has consulted her hubby, and they are taking the prize out as a lump-sum payment, which will further reduce their overall payout to $2.7m.
In the meantime, the Michigan Lotteries continues to stay busy with the lottery introducing a brand new $8,000,000 payout game over a week ago.
