A seasoned lottery player in Maryland won a hefty six-figure prize after using unusual numbers.
On Wednesday, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that a Calvert County resident, who chose to remain anonymous, won $50,000 on a $1 bet from the popular game, Pick 5.
The fortunate woman decided to play Pick 5 and purchased a $1 ticket for the game's drawing on July 25.
To her surprise, she matched correctly all five digits in the exact order for a $50,000 payout.
The probability of matching Pick 5 numbers in the exact order is 1 in 100,000.
Lucky for the Calvert County resident, she played with a $1 bet, enabling her to win $50,000, whereas a $0.50 bet would've granted her only $25,000.
The fortunate woman purchased her ticket at the Dash-In convenience store located at 875 North Solomon’s Island Road in Prince Frederick.
The retailer that sold the $50,000 winning ticket will benefit from a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
The retired federal employee visited the Maryland Lottery headquarters earlier this week to claim her big win.
Speaking to a Lottery official, the Southern Maryland woman told an interesting story about the numbers she selected for the recent Pick 5 drawing.
As it turns out, the woman decided to use the date her father passed away for the lottery drawing.
To her surprise, those numbers helped her win the $50,000 prize.
"My dad sent me some good luck. Thank you, dad," the fortunate winner said.
Sharing her excitement about the newfound fortune, the lucky woman added: "I got that bad boy straight!"
Speaking with an official from the Maryland Lottery, the woman admitted that this wasn't her first six-figure windfall from a lottery game.
As a seasoned lottery player, the Calvert County resident admitted that in 2023, she won a $62,000 prize from Racetrax, a popular computer-animated lottery game that fuses the thrill of horse racing with payouts and prizes of Keno.
What's more, the fortunate woman had won another sizable prize from an animated horses game back in 2015.
Asked about her plans for the newfound fortune, the lottery player admitted that she will use some of the prize to pay for bills and other expenses.
She added that with the $50,000 lottery windfall, she plans to buy her husband a new truck, too.
