A young man from Baltimore County, Maryland, decided to try his luck and bought several scratch-off tickets.
The man was incredibly surprised after winning one of the top prizes from a newly launched lottery game for a five-figure win.
On Tuesday, the Maryland Lottery confirmed that the name of the fortunate winner is Roshan Khatri.
The man, who was described as a lottery enthusiast, admitted that he had been playing the lottery for approximately six years.
During that time, Khatri has won a range of different prizes, but his latest one marks the first of such size.
The lucky lottery player recently visited JP’s Bar located at 528 South Bouldin Street in Baltimore and decided to buy several scratch-off tickets.
Although he bought several tickets, along with an energy drink, Khatri was drawn to one particular ticket, the MONOPOLY X20 scratch-off game.
Once he scratched off the ticket, the Baltimore County man was shocked to realize that he had just won one of the game's top prizes for a sweet $50,000 payout.
Khatri recalled the day he won the big prize. Speaking to Lottery officials he said: "I was stunned. I left the store quickly and started figuring out how to claim my prize."
The fortunate Parkville resident said that he kept the win a secret since the day he claimed the big prize.
He brought a friend along to Lottery headquarters "for security."
The MONOPOLY X20 scratch-off game winner added that he still doesn't have plans about the unexpected windfall.
"I have no idea how I'll spend it, but I'm just excited to get my winnings," Khatri said in conclusion.
As the name of the scratch-off game suggests, it is part of the world-famous MONOPOLY scratch-off series which is offered by the Maryland Lottery and licensed by Scientific Games.
The game rolled out only recently on January 13, 2025.
In fact, the recent top win represents the first grand prize won by MONOPOLY X20.
The cost for each scratch-off ticket is $5 and it grants a chance for a prize between $5 and a grand prize of $50,000.
The overall odds of winning any prize from the popular game are 1 in 3.77.
Initially, the game offered eight top prizes but after the recent win, seven prizes of $50,000 each remain in play.
