Man's knees buckle after $1.1m Fast Play win in North Carolina

Winning a million-dollar prize is a dream for many lottery players.

To the lucky few who are able to experience such a thrill, sometimes the excitement may be overwhelming.

Such incredible excitement is what a player from North Carolina, who recently purchased a fast play ticket, felt after realizing that he had won more than $1m.

The lucky player kept thinking if the win was real

Earlier this week, the North Carolina Education Lottery in a press release that a Charlotte man, whose name is Steven Holder, barely stood on his feet after winning a million-dollar prize from an instant play game.

The incredibly fortunate lottery player purchased his ticket from JAD Mart at Statesville Road in Charlotte.

To his surprise, the $10 Break the Bank ticket brought him a $1,115,683 Fast Play jackpot.

Overwhelmed by the million-dollar prize, the man admitted in a statement released by the Lottery: "My knees buckled. I kept thinking, 'Is this real.'"

Holder visited the Lottery's headquarters in Raleigh earlier this week to collect his prize.

The fortunate winner didn't share what his plans for the windfall were.

Considering that in North Carolina, lottery prizes are subject to federal and state tax, Holder collected nearly $798,000.

Speaking to Lottery officials, the lucky man admitted: "When I think about it, I still can't believe it happened."

The instant game offers different prizes in addition to a progressive jackpot

Considering that Holder purchased a $10 ticket, he was eligible to receive 100% of the progressive jackpot.

Break the Bank's $10 ticket grants players a chance to win a prize between $10 and 100% of a progressive jackpot.

The jackpot secured by Holder marked the third-largest Fast Play jackpot ever won in North Carolina.

The odds of winning the jackpot prize are 1 in 320,000, while the odds of winning a tier-two prize of $2,000 are 1 in 120,000.

On the other hand, a tier-three prize of $1,000 has odds of 1 in 14,117.65.

The overall odds of winning any prize from the Lottery's Break the Bank instant game are 1 in 3.11.

At the time of writing, the progressive jackpot from the popular lottery game is an estimated $46,707.
