A lucky resident of Melbourne, Florida, won a life-changing million-dollar prize after trying his luck with a $20 scratch-off game.
The Florida Lottery confirmed that the 63-year-old man from Brevard County became the latest winner from its Gold Rush Legacy scratch-off game.
The fortunate winner decided to give the $20 scratch-off game a try. He purchased a ticket from Circle K at 4001 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne.
To the surprise of the 63-year-old man, he won a tier-two prize of $1m.
After selling the winning lottery ticket, the retailer will benefit from a $2,000 bonus commission, the Florida Lottery confirmed.
Speaking to an official from the Lottery, the lucky winner admitted that he has been playing the lottery "since the very beginning."
The fortunate winner added: "Winning now means more than it would have years ago. The timing is just right."
The Melbourne resident visited the Lottery headquarters in Tallahassee earlier this week.
The winner chose to receive his prize as a one-time lump cash sum of $640,000.
The latest Gold Rush Legacy winner did not reveal if he had any plans regarding the unexpected windfall.
The $20 Gold Rush Legacy scratch-off game was launched in April last year.
Out of a total of four $10m top prizes, there are two remaining in play from the popular game.
The odds of winning a top prize from the Gold Rush Legacy scratch-off are 1 in 15,042,825.
A tier-two prize from the game awards players $1m. Undoubtedly, the Melbourne resident decided to give the ticket a try on his lucky day, considering that the odds of winning $1m are 1 in 3,008,565.
After the most recent tier two win of $1m, there are 10 more such prizes remaining in play.
On the other hand, a tier-three prize awards $25,000 and there are 70 such prizes in play with odds of 1 in 376,071.
Overall, there are $894m in total cash prizes in play from the Gold Rush Legacy ticket.
The odds of winning any prize from the popular scratch-off game are 1 in 2.97.
