Fortunate Michigan lottery player wins $6.8m Lotto 47 jackpot

An incredibly lucky man is looking forward to buying a new house, investing and going on vacation after winning a multi-million-dollar lottery prize.

That's the story of one Grand Traverse County man who scored the jackpot prize from the Michigan Lottery's Lotto 47 game.

"You can’t win if you don’t play"

The winner, who chose to remain anonymous, purchased his winning ticket at Northland Food Center at 2377 East M 113 in Kingsley.

In an interview for the Michigan Lottery, the fortunate player said that he regularly plays different lottery games.

"I play Lotto 47 and some of the other draw games regularly because my theory is that you can’t win if you don’t play," he explained.

Entering Lotto 47's drawing on August 15, 2026, the winner matched all six winning numbers, 04-16-28-30-36-37, to win the game's jackpot for a whopping $6.79m payday.

"I got on the Michigan Lottery app to check the winning numbers the day after the drawing," the player said.

What's more, the Grand Traverse County man recalled the moments after winning the life-changing prize, saying: "When I saw I matched all six and won the $6.79 million jackpot, I wanted to scream! I kept blinking and thinking to myself: ‘This can’t be right.’ It was unreal."

The jackpot winner visited the Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his big prize.

There, the Grand Traverse County man faced a choice to either collect the entire $6.79mjackpot via annuity payments or take home a one-time lump sum of approximately $4.7m.

The fortunate man picked the latter option and when asked about his plans for the lottery windfall, he said he plans to buy a house, go on vacation and invest.

Odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 10.7m

Lotto 47 tickets cost $1 per play and offer players a chance to win a prize between $5 and a jackpot that starts at $1m and grows until won.

The odds of winning the top prize from Lotto 47's regular drawing are 1 in 10.7m.

An extra $1 per play adds the game's Double Play option, granting players a chance to win a second chance prize of up to $1.5m.

For another $1 per game, lottery players can tap into the EZMatch feature for a chance to win up to $500 instantly.

Lotto 47's drawings are held on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 7:29 PM.

Tickets for the popular game are available via retail outlets across Michigan and online via the Lottery's official website.

The $6.79m jackpot marks the largest jackpot from Lotto 47 won so far this year.

At the time of writing, the game's top prize is an estimated $1.55m for the next drawing.
