Workers from another Mississippi casino voted in favor of unionizing.
At the start of the year, Gold Strike Casino Resort employees joined Teamsters Local 667, seeking better representation, wages and protections.
Now, dozens of workers at Bally's Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi have voted to join Teamsters Local 891.
Overall, 66 front desk workers, bankers and cashiers at Bally's Hard Rock Hotel and Casino voted in favor of unionization.
Thanks to the effort, they will be looking forward to higher wages, enhanced job security and better work benefits.
The workers at Bally's Hard Rock Hotel and Casino join a growing list of more than 6,000 casino workers represented by Teamsters.
Notably, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters represents more than 1.3m workers in Canada, U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Jimmy Pinkard, Teamsters Local 891's President, spoke with excitement about the latest announcement, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.
"We are proud to welcome these hardworking new members to our union," he said.
Finally, Pinkard pointed out: "This organizing victory is a big step forward, and we are ready to help these workers secure a first contract."
Tommy Blitsch, the Director of the Teamsters Convention, Trade Show and Casino Division, was similarly delighted.
He acknowledged that the decision of dozens of workers at Bally's Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi to unionize is a testament to Teamsters' ongoing success in the casino vertical.
"The Teamsters are growing in Mississippi because we are taking action and getting results for workers. We are just getting started," he added.
Late last year, Rivers Casino workers voted to ratify Teamsters Local 822 contract.
Thanks to the collective bargaining agreement, approved by an overwhelming majority of 95% of the workers, they will benefit from extra time off, better pay and other job benefits.
