The discourse surrounding responsible gambling in the United States has been intensifying over the past months. With the arrival of regulated sports gambling, it has become far more evident that consumers need to be protected in stauncher terms. Some of the early movers have been the American Gaming Association, a trade group, which has called for the end of "risk-free" verbiage in gambling advertisements, backed by lawmakers, who found the practice to be irresponsible.
One of the most prominent supporters of responsible gambling in the United States, though, has been the Entain Foundation US, which is now moving onto another opportunity to support fans and raise awareness for safe gambling practices. The foundation is teaming up with the NHL Alumni Association (NHLAA) to help hockey fans stay safe when they enjoy a flutter.
As a result, the Entain Foundation US is becoming a new multi-year partner to the NHLAA. Designated as an Official Responsible Gambling Partner, the organizaiton will support the NHLAA over the next three years and help advance the association’s health and wellness program as well as make responsible gambling education available to all NHLAA members, Entain confirmed in a press release.
NHLAA President & Executive Director Glenn Healy has welcomed this opportunity and said that the partnership constituted an important step forward for the association:
"The NHLAA is proud to be entering this new partnership with Entain Foundation and our team is aligned with their vision of promoting responsible gaming research and education tools to sports fans."
The opportunity was similarly welcomed by Entain SVP for American Regulatory Affairs and Responsible Gambling and Trustee of Entain Foundation US, Martin Lycka, who said that it was crucial to expand educational efforts in order to tackle problem gambling.
"This new partnership reflects this importance and will ensure that NHL Alumni and fans can gain access to impactful, educational programs on how to avoid gambling harm," Lycka explained. To help bolster these educational efforts, the Entain Foundation US, NHLAA and Wager Score will work on a program together.
Entain Foundation US and Wager Score recently co-launched a pilot program intended for gambling affordability checks in Ontario, a seminal opportunity to strengthen player protection measures in a non-invasive manner.
