Currently, the Dutch Gaming Authority (KSA), the gambling regulator in the Netherlands, is in charge of monitoring the regulated gambling sector in the country. Its responsibilities include enforcing the rules, proactive monitoring and licensing, among other strategic priorities. Recently, the KSA confirmed that it plans a change in its senior-level team.

A statement released by the Authority reveals that its current board chairman, René Jansen, selected not to be reappointed to his role. His term is scheduled to expire on October 1 next year. However, Jansen will reach retirement age at the end of this year and has chosen not to reapply for the important role.

In light of the upcoming vacancy, the Minister for Legal Protection is expected to appoint a new chairman of the board of directors. The future chairman would serve for a six-year term. Responses on the topic can be submitted through November 12, 2023, and the recruitment process will be completed through the General Administrative Service (ABD). According to the KSA, with Jansen's upcoming resignation, the term of the new chairman is expected to start on July 1, 2024.

Commenting on the topic, the outgoing chairman explained: "In recent years I have committed myself to the KSA's mission of safe play with great energy and pleasure." According to Jansen, there are many challenges that await the future chairman of the Authority.

"The KSA has an important role as a supervisor and enforcer in the various gaming markets," he added. Finally, Jansen explained: "This management position is challenging, requires creativity, innovation and decisiveness, but above all has great social value."

The announcement about the upcoming senior-level team change comes after the KSA recently issued a penalty against Blue High House S.A. At the time of the announcement, the gambling regulator alleged that the operator offered games of chance to customers in the Netherlands without the required license. As a result, the KSA asked the operator to discontinue this offering, warning that failure to comply would result in €43,000 weekly penalties up to a maximum of €129,000.

Upon announcing the planned sanctions, the Authority encouraged customers to only use licensed gambling operators. It reiterated that player protection and fair services are only ensured through operators who hold a license in the Netherlands. At the same time, the KSA warned about risks associated with unlicensed gambling operators and said that it will continue to proactively monitor the market.
