The national nonprofit organization that focuses on mitigating gambling-related harm through advocacy and awareness, the National Council on Problem Gambling (NCPG), announced the appointment of an Interim Executive Director.
The Council selected The Jeffers Group founder and executive leader with decades of experience, Charles H. Jeffers II, for the key role.
On Monday, the NCPG confirmed that Jeffers’ appointment as Interim Executive Director is with immediate effect.
The decision to name an interim director comes after the unexpected departure of NCPG’s former Executive Director, Heather Maurer.
It was last year in November when the Council appointed Maurer to the role of Executive Director. However, less than a year later, in September, she resigned from her position.
Now, as the NCPG plans to initiate a search for a permanent Executive Director, Jeffers will take the reins in an interim capacity.
Jeffers holds a bachelor’s degree from American International College and a Master of Public Administration from Georgia State University.
Currently, he serves on the board of Baltimore Squash Wise, the Board of Trustees of Maine Central Institute and is the founder of the consulting firm specializing in interim executive leadership, strategic operations, culture and governance, The Jeffers Group.
Overall, Jeffers has more than three decades of experience in nonprofit executive leadership and organizational consulting.
Throughout his lengthy career, he offered advice and helped many organizations overcome various challenges.
Derek Longmeier, NCPG’s Board President, discussed the latest appointment, Casino Guru News learned from a press release.
"Charles’ depth of experience in understanding culture dynamics, operational demands, and board governance is key to our selecting him to lead as Interim Executive Director of NCPG," he said.
Moreover, Longmeier pointed out: "As he navigates the leadership transition, he will be focused on operations aligned with strategy and transparency, and culture reflecting NCPG values."
Finally, the Board President acknowledged that Vetted Solutions would initiate the search for a permanent Executive Director of the NCPG in January 2027.
