KSA bolsters Advisory Board with two new appointments

The Dutch Gambling Authority, Kansspelautoriteit (KSA), strengthened its Advisory Board with the appointment of two experts.

On Monday, the gambling watchdog confirmed it selected Prof. Dr. Ingmar Franken and Marjolein Hoogland as members of its Advisory Board.

The newly appointed Advisory Board members will serve for a period of three years

The KSA's Advisory Council was created back in 2014. Since then, it has played a major role by providing the gambling regulator with unsolicited and solicited advice.

The Advisory Board is led by Anita Vegter, who serves as chair.

As a part of the KSA's Advisory Board, Franken and Hoogland are joining existing members Peter Kerkhof and Haiko van der Voort.

With the latest senior-level appointment, the Advisory Board is "back at full strength," a statement released by the gambling regulator reveals.

"Mr. Marjolein Hoogland and Prof. Dr. Ingmar Franken have been appointed as new members of the Advisory Board of the Netherlands Gambling Authority (KSA) for a period of three years," the regulator explained.

Late last month, three operators received warnings from the Dutch gambling regulator.

At the time, the watchdog claimed the operators breached the Wwft, or the Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Prevention Act.

Despite the warnings, the KSA explained that the three companies won't be subjected to immediate enforcement penalties.

Still, the Dutch Gambling Authority reiterated that all licensees need to ensure their compliance with the existing laws and that includes the guidelines under the Wwft.

The Advisory Board members have extensive experience

Currently, Franken holds the role of a full-time professor of Clinical Psychology at Erasmus University Rotterdam.

Moreover, he is the head of the Centre for Addiction and Substance Research in Rotterdam.

Undoubtedly, his extensive experience and unique knowledge make him an excellent addition to the Advisory Board of the KSA.

On the other hand, Hoogland currently holds the role of National Chief Advocate General of the Public Prosecution Service of the District Court of The Hague.

Throughout her career, she was also employed at the District Court of The Hague as Deputy Chief Prosecutor.

Earlier this summer, the KSA published its second assessment of the gambling rules changes from 2024.
