Gordon Moody, a leading UK charity focused on providing residential treatment to people who have been severely affected by gambling-related harm, has launched a new initiative to further expand its portfolio of resources and treatment options with the arrival of its Gambling Support First Aid training program, Casino Guru News learned in an email release.

Gordon Moody expands the scope of tools to address gambling-related harm

Gordon Moody has been rapidly expanding the reach of its services and areas of focus, aiming to help tackle gambling problems in various strata of the population and also provide specialists with the necessary tools and know-how to address problem gambling when they encounter it in everyday life.

Gordon Moody’s premise is simple. Although many people are trained in how to respond in cases of heart attack or a stroke, few understand how to help individuals who struggle with gambling addiction – whether this is a family member, a friend, or a colleague.

The Gambling Support First Aid Training aims to change that by equipping more people with the skills and knowledge to recognize and respond to the problem. Commenting on this opportunity, Gordon Moody CEO Monica Shafaq said:

"I am delighted that we are launching Gambling Support First Aid training. It’s important to us to address the stigma associated with seeking support for gambling-related harm. This requires individuals and communities to have a greater understanding and empathetic approach to the issue."

The training is designed to help people respond in those instances where they see that someone is experiencing gambling harm. The program also seeks to educate people on how to offer supportive and non-judgmental assistance that will further encourage people struggling with gambling-related issues to step forward and seek help.

Not just intervening, but understanding the emotional toll of gambling harm

"Our training will help individuals create supportive, non-judgmental environments where not only speaking about these issues is supported, but where there is a clear action plan in place to help individuals who may be affected gain professional help," Shafaq continued.

The Gambling Support First Aid is designed to offer a holistic approach to helping individuals who suffer from problem gambling in a way that focuses on practical and emotional support and that goes beyond "intervening" but rather tries to educate people who help about the emotional aspects of addressing gambling-related harm in people that are close to them or are in their immediate environment.

Gordon Moody has been one of the most prominent companies in the sector, helping private companies and individuals hone their understanding of problem gambling. The charity previously teamed up with Casino Guru to launch a course that raises awareness for safer gambling practices, and the importance of self-regulation.
