The leading provider of information, support and advice for people affected by gambling harm, GamCare, confirmed a senior-level appointment. The gambling support charity revealed this week that it appointed Mark Weiss to the role of Deputy CEO. GamCare explained that his appointment comes in addition to the existing role he holds as Director of Communications and External Affairs.

Weiss initially joined GamCare back in May 2022. Since then, he has played an important role in the charity's external engagement and communications program. Bringing more than a decade of experience in communications and health policy, Weiss has become an invaluable asset for GamCare.

In his position as Director of Communications and External Affairs, he helped oversee important processes, including the charity's response to the review of the Gambling Act amid the overhaul of the sector in the UK. Thanks to Weiss' expertise, GamCare submitted a number of suggestions on how UK lawmakers can make the gambling industry safer.

Now, holding the new role of Deputy CEO, Weiss will collaborate with Margot Daly, GamCare's Executive Chair. He will provide strategic guidance and advice, while at the same time serving as the charity's ambassador.

In a statement, Daly revealed that it is exciting to see Weiss take on the role of Deputy CEO. She welcomed him to the new role, adding: "His first-hand appreciation of the profound positive impact of GamCare’s treatment services and prevention programs underscores his commitment to the tens of thousands of people who use our services every year."

Finally, Daly said: "As GamCare navigates the evolving landscape, Mark’s collaborative and evidenced-based approach will be instrumental in driving forward GamCare’s core mission to help those affected by gambling-related harm, and to prevent further harm from emerging."

Weiss added that he is delighted to become GamCare's new Deputy CEO. He revealed that ever since joining the charity, he has seen the positive impact it has on people affected by gambling harm, while at the same time playing an important role in the prevention of such harm.

In conclusion, Weiss said: "As we now work through this transitional period in the future of research, prevention, and treatment, I look forward to working in close collaboration with our third sector partners, with GambleAware, the NHS, and with Government as, together, we build the next chapter of gambling support in Britain."

Before becoming a part of GamCare, the seasoned expert oversaw Policy and Public Affairs for one of the UK's largest hospitals. Before that, he was a part of the UK Faculty of Public Health for nearly a decade.
