Flutter Entertainment has confirmed that it will be winding down the operations of its Betfair brand, along with Betfair Exchange, Sportsbook, and Casino in Italy, with the company speaking to SBC News, an industry media outlet.
The company has cited the recent review of Italian gambling regulations in November 2025 as the reason why the move has been necessitated.
The new move comes not long after the parent companyannounced up to 1,400 layoffs in its United Kingdom & Ireland division, citing regulatory changes that have pressured the business into letting more people go.
In a statement to another media outlet, SiGMA NEWS, a Flutter Entertainment spokesperson directly confirmed that the discontinuation of Betfair is linked to the regulatory landscape and regulatory requirements that have made it no longer commercially sustainable:
"Recent regulatory changes in Italy have made the Betfair Exchange product no longer commercially sustainable. As a result, Flutter has also decided to soon discontinue the Betfair Sportsbook and Casino product in the Italian market.
"This represents a very small proportion of our revenue in Italy and will have no impact on our other brands or employees based in Italy," the spokesperson added.
The biggest factor for Betfair is the fact that all of its brands in Italy would have been required to hold a separate license, instead of a joint operator license that is then allowed to run multiple brands.
Flutter specifically runs PokerStars, Sisal, Snai, and Betfair in Italy, with the remainder of the brands seemingly unaffected by the decision, and no plans floated about the possibility.
