As Brazil is now officially a regulated sports betting market, and only licensed and authorized operators may provide their products locally, the Brazilian Ministry of Finance is looking to introduce regulatory safeguards to help it protect the integrity of sports, Casino Guru News learned in an email press release.
To this end, a deal with Sportradar Group AG has been formed, through a Technical Cooperation Agreement, which will ensure that the tech company provides the country’s allocated gambling regulator with the means necessary to protect the integrity of sports and the sanctity of betting.
Thanks to this new agreement, the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting will have the tools necessary to further coordinate the authorization, inspection, and sanctioning process of operators that want to provide online sports betting products, but similarly online casino games.
This will be achieved through the implementation of such solutions as the Sportradar Integrity Tool designed to monitor the market and offer strategic insight into betting volumes and patterns that could indicate foul play.
Commenting on this opportunity, Secretary of Prizes and Betting Régis Dudena has welcomed this new partnership which will allow the regulator to combat a major threat to the fixed-odds betting market – the manipulation of game results and undermining of sports integrity.
Sportradar’s Manager for Integrity Partnerships in Brazil, Felippe Marchetti, was similarly excited about the opportunity this partnership presented. Marchetti hailed Sportradar’s Integrity Division expertise and said that it would be invaluable in helping address match manipulation in the country.
"This ACT reflects a mutual commitment to establish a sustainable, regulated sports betting industry in Brazil that is built upon a foundation of integrity," Marchetti wrapped up. However, this is not the only partnership that the Ministry of Finance has signed.
A similar partnership with the International Betting and Integrity Association (IBIA) is similarly meant to help the ministry strengthen its capabilities and monitor betting volumes, alerting authorities and the regulator to potential match-fixing or corruption in sport.
Brazil has already gone on the offensive, shutting down 2,000 illegal gambling websites. The government has also stated that the sports betting and gaming market in Brazil is not a done deal. Should social ills begin to mount, the government could outlaw gambling completely.
