The Super Group-owned brand and fast-growing betting operator, Betway, announced details regarding a new sponsorship agreement. Earlier this week, the betting brand confirmed it joined forces with Major League Cricket (MLC). Thanks to the new collaboration, Betway confirmed that the historic first season of the MLC will be "Powered by Betway."
The latest agreement further complements Betway's portfolio of partners. Previously, the company has established partnerships within the soccer vertical with La Liga, Bundesliga, as well as the Premier League. In tennis, Betway has active partnerships in eight different countries.
Focusing on the company's expansion in the United States, the latest collaboration with MLC further boosts its footprint. Currently, Betway is live in eight different US states and has a total of 11 partnerships, including deals with the NBA and NHL.
Sameer Mehta, MLC's co-Founder, shared his excitement about the latest collaboration in a statement. "Major League Cricket is bringing the world’s best cricketers to America, so it is fitting that the historic inaugural season will be "Powered by Betway," who have become a renowned brand supporting global sports properties," he explained.
Finally, Mehta pointed out: "We are thrilled by Betway’s commitment to growing cricket in America and we can’t wait for a memorable season to get underway soon."
MLC's inaugural match took place Thursday, July 13, 2023, meeting the Los Angeles Knight Riders with the Texas Super Kings at Grand Prairie Stadium in Texas, United States. Overall, there will be 18 matches that will lead up to the MLC's inaugural championship final, which is planned for Sunday, July 30, 2023. There will be six teams competing, including Washington Freedom, Texas Super Kings, Seattle Orcas, San Francisco Unicorns, MI New York as well as the Los Angeles Knight Riders.
Earlier this year, Betway confirmed that it extended its partnership with Ghana Football Association (GHA) for the Ghana Women's Premier League. The milestone agreement reaffirmed the brand's support for the growth of sports in Ghana, while at the same time allowing it to benefit from increased exposure.
Anthony Werkman, Betway's CEO, shared his excitement about the latest collaboration with MLC. "It’s with great pride to announce that we’re powering the inaugural Major League Cricket season; the newest innovative cricket competition in the world," he said. "Cricket is a globally renowned sport both we and our customers love, so we’re thrilled to be part of another new competition, which will aid the growth of the sport in the US and beyond," explained Werkman in conclusion.
