The only sportsbook brand that is headquartered in Ohio, United States, betJACK, celebrated the launch of its services by making a donation. On Monday, the operator revealed it completed a $20,000 donation to Special Olympics Ohio.
The company explained in a statement released on January 2, 2023, that the donation will help "Special Olympics Ohio provide year-round training and competition for its 20,000 athletes throughout 88 counties."
Further building on the positive momentum, betJACK collected its first bet for its Cleveland location from the Special Olympics Ohio's Chief Development Officer, Christine Hoyer. The first bet was $68 wagered on the Cleveland-based professional basketball team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, to win the NBA championship.
JACK Entertainment's President, Brian Eby, said about the latest donation: "At the center of our core beliefs as a company is the principle that we do well by doing good." He explained: "We will continue to move forward with supporting this mission through the many diverse organizations within our state and look forward to having a positive impact throughout Ohio."
Jessica Stewart, Special Olympics Ohio's President and CEO, added: "We're grateful betJACK selected Special Olympics Ohio as its first philanthropic partner, as they celebrate this monumental launch while celebrating the community they call home." Finally, she pointed out that the donation will deliver invaluable support for athletes in the state.
Officially, Ohio launched its regulated sports betting market at midnight on January 1, 2023. This was a long-anticipated launch considering that the state legalized the activity back in December 2021. Following the launch, now sports fans can place a legal wager via mobile apps or by visiting retail outlets.
Currently, betJACK offers its sports betting services via two retail locations in Northeast Ohio. One of the locations is the JACK Cleveland Casino while the other one is JACK Thistledown Racino. Both locations offer plenty of amenities including large video screens and TVs.
On the other hand, sports fans that prefer wagering from the convenience of their home can also use the operator's mobile app. According to betJACK, since the launch of regulated sports betting, thousands of players have placed online wagers via its app.
betJACK wasn't the only sports betting operator that introduced its betting services in Ohio with the official launch of the regulated sports betting market. Other major industry providers such as DraftKings, FanDuel, and BetMGM, to name a few, have also introduced their services in the state.
Having multiple sports betting operators helps create a robust market. At the same time, it is likely that Ohioans will be able to take advantage of competitive offers and a variety of incentives.
