The leading supplier of gambling products for customers in British Columbia, the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC), released a new report, outlining progress on its environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives for the 2022-2023 period. The new report is titled Winning With Purpose: BCLC’s Annual Report and uncovers strategic ESG objectives completed for the aforementioned period.

In its report, the BCLC detailed not only strategic objectives that were already completed but confirmed its progress toward its 2030 ESG Goals. "The report documents how, in addition to delivering a record of over $1.6 billion in net income to the Province of B.C., BCLC continued its efforts to create value through its operations by further embedding social purpose into its business and expanding upon its social and environmental commitments," explains a statement released by the gambling operator.

According to the 2022-2023 report, the BCLC focused on expanding its Indigenous reconciliation. During that period, the company hired a senior manager of Indigenous relations who was tasked with leading the BCLC's strategy on the matter.

Moreover, the BCLC confirmed it enhanced its self-exclusion program called Game Break with the addition of an active reinstatement process that allows players to determine if they are ready to return to gambling. Such players can also tap into additional information, including support and details that can help them make an informed decision.

Further achievements completed during the latest period involve different ESG-related efforts. The company confirmed that it laid the groundwork for "a decarbonization roadmap" and started analyzing science-based targets.

The latest document marks the first time the company combined financial results along with ESG performance data. The BCLC's new report follows three strategic objectives the company plans for 2030. Those efforts include creating a positive social impact and governing in the public interest. The company also anticipates becoming a leader in addressing climate change.

Jim Gudjonson, BCLC's Manager of Sustainability Innovation, commented on the topic saying: "Guided by our social purpose, we’ve focused on engaging and collaborating with stakeholders over the past year to integrate our ESG framework towards ambitious 2030 goals." Finally, he pointed out: "This report tells the story of our purpose in action and, more importantly, the multiple ways we create value for our players and communities while generating net positive impacts on the planet."

Earlier this year, the BCLC announced a collaboration with Evolution, the leading provider of live table games. Thanks to that agreement, BCLC's customers in three provinces, Manitoba, Saskatchewan and British Columbia, gained access to new high-limit live casino games from the leading iGaming supplier.
