  • A Las Vegas company wants to have 500 helicopter taxis in the air
  • The first choppers by UpWin Air Taxi may be arriving in 2026
  • They would cost about $30 per person and take you to your destination in several minutes

Air taxis may be the subject to a lot of speculation, outright mistrust, and questionable feasibility, but one company in Las Vegas is hoping to allow for cheap travel around Sin City in its ride-shared air shuttle service that will cost only $30 to get from point A to point B.

Las Vegas helicopter taxis are just overhead!

This is the promise of UpWin Air Taxi, a company affiliated with the Las Vegas Spaceport, which just purchased an air taxi helipad near Allegiant Stadium, the Las Vegas Review-Journal and other media outlets reported.

The move presages the launch of the full-scale service launch which could be arriving as early as 2026. UpWin CEO Robert Lauer has not hidden his ambitions for having set a new standard for "air mobility"

Congestion has been an issue in Las Vegas, and the opportunity to move around town at a reasonable cost without getting suck in traffic will certainly appeal to wealthy and regular folk. According to Lauer, a ride ought to cost around $30 per person, and it should be complete in several minutes at the very most.

Costs are kept down by a combination of factors. For starters, the company is planning for its initial stages to be economically viable.

Right now, though, the service will focus on transporting people from chosen stations, which will be built so that a helicopter may land onto them, to the Allegiant Stadium, but it is nevertheless an exciting step in changing the way people travel around town.

In other words, the company is at first going to service specific routes so as to ensure that it can bring positive financial results. Another factor is the speed – with UpWin Air Taxi is potentially able to do several flights per hour, rather than being stuck in a 30-minute Uber ride.

Keeping costs down while ensuring the city is connected

The company plans to have some 500-odd helicopters in the air eventually, and it will start with traditional ones while it awaits certification for safe and reliable electric choppers, allowing it to engage in even more aggressive cost-cutting.

Lauer though knows that to succeed, this new service will also have to target all and sundry. UpWin Air Taxi will also aim to be licensed and launch from various locations around the city, such as shopping centers, casino resorts, and other areas people usually frequent and would want to hitch a quick ride too.
