  • ACMA issues blocking orders against seven more casinos and betting platforms
  • The measure is designed to shield local consumers from gambling websites that are not licensed to operate in the country
  • ACMA is steadily adding to its list of blocked websites, with 1,338 brands restricted as of right now

The Australian Communications and Media Authority’s commitment to uprooting illegal brands from the iGaming market has not lessened over the years, with the regulator, known as ACMA for short, now pushing another round of ISP blocking orders against seven operators.

ACMA doubles down on blocking orders against websites

The casinos and betting platforms affected in the latest enforcement action include Crown Gold, Maxspin Casino, Rain dot gg, Didibet, LuckyBet, Marina Casino, and Spins of Glory, all of which will be restricted by local Internet Service Providers moving forward.

ACMA has been actively blocking websites since November 2019, with the list growing at a painstaking pace and featuring 1,338 illegal gambling platforms, affiliates, and even suppliers. ACMA has reiterated that because of its ISP-blocking measure, 220 websites had left out of their own will, facing overseas action should they refuse.

As to the effectiveness of the measure, ACMA has remained committed to its methodology, pressuring Australia-facing online casinos specifically. However, an ongoing problem has been the ability of offshore operators to rapidly relaunch their websites under new domains that are usually on standby.

The regulator has not let up the pressure on the sector, with ACMA issuing another round of blocks in mid-September, affecting five other websites.
