ACMA cracks down on 10 illegal gambling sites

• Australia continues to tackle illegal gambling by addressing both operators as well as influencers within the country

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has named 10 illegal gambling websties as part of its latest crackdown on thes sector.

New round of blocking orders by ACMA leads to 10 websites’ suspension

The regulator has been going after unauthorized gambling websites in the country for a while now, with 1,774 operators and affiliate websites blocked since November 2019, when the blocking orders began.

The latest round affects 10 online websites specifically, among which are Zizobet, KingAUD, Lucky Vibe, Daily Spins, Gambiva, Pokies99, Hot Pokies Group, and others, which the watchdog argues have been operating in the country without a license or/and offering an unauthorized product.

The blocking orders are issued as part of enforcing compliance with the Interactive Gambling Act 2001 which is the basis of all regulated gambling in the country.

Since the new gambling rules have been introduced, ACMA also saw 230 services leave voluntarily, as most of them were prominent international operators worried about potential issues with their overseas licenses.

ACMA continues to address offshore gambling sites that target Australians

ACMA once again reminded Australians that by connecting to offshore gambling websites, they run the risk of incurring financial losses as well as having their personal data shared with bad actors.

The regulator has been actively looking to limit the influence of illegal gambling websites, leading a concentrated effort to stamp them out. In May, the regulator blocked another six such websites.

ACMA also targeted an MMA fighter, Jamie Mullarkey, who had promoted an illegal gambling service, and warned the athlete to not engage in such behavior. Mullarkey complied fully with the regulator.
