Every National Football League (NFL) player can remember who their toughest opponent was, and the former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman and NFL legend, Alan Faneca, is no exception.
In an exclusive interview with Casino Guru News, the former NFL offensive linemanrecalled his toughest opponent and explained why.
The former NFL player revealed the toughest opponent he ever faced was the NFL Hall of Fame defensive tackle, Warren Sapp.
"It wasn't what he did on game days per se, but it's how he played the game, and he played it so much different," Faneca said.
Sapp's play style challenged Faneca to dig deep into his toolbox whenever he faced the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle.
The former Steelers offensive lineman highlighted Sapp's unique defensive tackle style thatdistinguished himfrom all other players at the time.
"He played it nice and wide, and he played it quick, and when you're a center or a guard in the offensive line, you know, when we pass protect, tackles get to go deep and take them up the field, but we have to set the pocket and be firm," Faneca continued.
The NFL legend pointed to Sapp's explosiveness and weight, acknowledging that this made him an especially difficult opponent.
Sapp was combining his distinctive playing style with his wide alignment, which pushed Faneca to make technical and mental adjustments ahead of games where he was about to face his most difficult opponent.
"Every time I'd play Warren, I'd have to work all week long just to force myself to remember how I needed to play this week, that I had to play differently to go against him," Faneca said in conclusion.
