The Cleveland Brownsare yet to name a starting quarterback for the season.
With many NFL and Browns fans eagerly anticipating such an announcement, Casino Guru News reached out to the award-winning NFL reporter, insider and analyst, Jason La Canfora.
In an exclusive interview, La Canfora said: "I’m gonna let you in on a little secret. Deshaun Watson was always going to be their starting quarterback, unless he got hurt."
According to the NFL insider, there are $240m reasons why Watson is likely going to be the Browns’ starting quarterback.
Namely, La Canfora said that Watson is in the final year of his fully guaranteed contract, which was "one of the more controversial in NFL history."
At the same time, the NFL insider pointed to the significant investment by the ownership group, and the recent, final $45m paid to Watson under the fully guaranteed deal.
"The other quarterbacks, Shedeur Sanders and Dylan Gabriel make, basically veteran minimum money on rookie contracts."
La Canfora added: "The pendulum was always going to go in one direction here, for rookie head coach Todd Monken. And that was that if Deshaun Watson was upright, if he looked at least quasi-functional, that he was going to win this job."
Another reason why Watson is likely going to be the starter for the Browns, according to the NFL insider, is the fact that Shedeur Sanders hasn’t "come close to playing well enough to distance himself from Watson in any way."
