Aaron Rodgers’ position with the Pittsburgh Steelers has not yet been confirmed, while the Arizona Cardinals - Rodgers’ possible new team - has remained non-committal.
Mike LaFleur, the Cardinals’ new head coach who is entering his first season with the team, is not worrying too much about Rodgers, focusing his team’s attention on what he has described as the enthusiastic fresh blood that is joining the Cardinals instead.
Speaking on The Jim Rome Show, and taking a question from the host on whether Rodgers would be looking to join Arizona, LaFleur simply said that the team was presently busy with "the guys that we got coming in."
"Honestly, Jim, right now we’re focused on the guys that we got coming in. We got a room that we’re excited to work with, and that’s solely where my focus is," LaFleur said, appearing upbeat on the team’s future - with or without Rodgers.
However, Rodgers’ future remains as cryptic as ever. He has been unwilling to make an outright commitment to the Steelers, indicative that he is also debating a change of scenery, but whether this goes beyond "see what my options are before I decide" or points to deeper discontent with his current team is difficult to say.
Presently, Rodgers is rumored to be eying a spot with the Cardinals, and some Cardinals players have already teased on social media that they were "waiting for him," fueling rumors that the man is indeed going to change his jersey in the upcoming NFL season.
With LaFleur remaining non-committal and keeping a brave face in public, it may be down to Rodgers to decide.
Previously, CBS Sports insider John Breech suggested that Rodgers may indeed be interested in Arizona.
The Steelers have also been exploring their options.
