The Windcreek Chicago Southland Casino in Homewood, Illinois, is finally set to open doors. After several delays experienced by the project, Wind Creek Hospitality has set the Homewood Casino opening date for the fall of 2024 or early in January 2025.
The project has run into several setbacks, and the casino resort located at 17400 S. Halsted, East Hazel Crest, IL 60429, has been pushed back by 18 months from its original opening date slated for 2023 or early 2024. The casino is located not far from Interstate 80/294.
The latest adjustment to the casino’s opening date came in March 2024, with Wind Creek Hospitality tentatively confirming that it could open the casino floor, but not the hotel, in the fall.
The update follows a previous change of plans when Wind Creek negotiated redevelopment agreements with the suburbs of East Hazel Crest and Homewood in 2023 and said it would aim to open the project on January 1, 2025.
Construction began in September 2022, but the $529m project needed several quick revisits to ensure that Wind Creek Hospitality achieves the high-quality casino experience it is aiming at, while pleasing local partners.
The fact that Homewood Casino has not suffered any further delays is reassuring, and the company’s website has been hiring future staff members since mid-2023 in the very least. The property has created 600 construction jobs and 800 permanent positions in the hospitality sector.
There is a chance that Windcreek Casino will open in 2024. The company confirmed that the Homewood Casino opening date may indeed be set for the fall of this year. However, as of September, there has been no further information.
Opening for the Chicago Southland Casino has been set for January 1, 2025, at the very latest. If the casino opens in 2024, however, it is expected to come without the adjacent hotel, with the gaming floor remaining a priority for the company.
The delays so far have mostly occurred not because of bureaucratic overreach but mostly because of bad weather conditions which forced construction to continue at a slower pace over the past months.
Interestingly, Wind Creek chose not to open a temporary casino, which has been a standard practice for most other companies in the process of building fully-fledged resorts, especially those that lock in a substantial investment amount.
Homewood Casino, officially Windcreek Chicago Southland Casino, is a multi-million project owned by the Porch Band of Creek Indians, as part of the Windcreek hospitality brand. The casino is currently under construction at 17300 S. Halsted St., East Hazel Crest, IL 60429, around 20 miles from Chicago, Illinois.
The project is set to create 800 permanent jobs and has already created 600 construction jobs while the resort is erected. The casino sprawls on 70,000 square feet dedicated to 1,350 slot machines and 56 table games, along with 252 hotel rooms, although further expansion is not ruled out.
Apart from developing a high-quality casino floor and hospitality offering, the property is also going to host a sportsbook. Wind Creek has already signed several prominent partnerships, including with the Chicago Bulls, an NBA franchise.
Food enthusiasts may find the destination popular as the Chicago Southland casino will be hosting a Fabio Vivani restaurant. Apart from the 243 rooms, including 43 luxuriously decorated suites, the property also features event and entertainment facilities to offer visitors the most worthwhile experience across the board.
The Homewood Casino is located at 17300 S. Halsted St., East Hazel Crest, IL 60429, close to Interstate 80/294 and only 20 miles away from Chicago. The property sprawls in the vicinity of the suburbs of suburbs of East Hazel Crest and Homewood.
The new Homewood Casino is officially called Windcreek Chicago Southland Casino. The property is commonly referred to as Homewood Casino. The moniker has been given to the casino because of the overlap between the East Hazel Crest and Homewood suburbs.
With this said, Homewood might be the bigger of the two suburbs, hence landing its name on the project as it is much easier to say than the "East Hazel Crest Casino," for example.
All in all, the Homewood Casino project has been a longcoming. Apart from the delays in the opening date, there have been no other issues surrounding the project. Windcreek Hospitality has been able to keep the project within the allotted budget.
Local authorities and communities have been rather welcoming of the Windcreek Chicago Southland Casino as a whole, and a binding opening date, although a moving target, should be announced within weeks or months.
For the time being, if you are looking for the Homewood Casino opening date, you could hope for the casino to open doors this fall with a full opening, including the hotel, to come in early 2025.
