Illinois is once again the focal point of a new huge Mega Millions jackpot. While the lucky local did not really hit the max jackpot, they still secured a respectable $3,000,000 in prize money.
Details about the person’s identity are not immediately clear, as Illinois also allows winners to remain anonymous after they claim the award (most do, apart from a photo-op with an outsized lottery check that covers their faces).
As to the numbers that fetched the seven-figure prize, they were: 2, 18, 27, 34, 59, and a Mega Ball of 18. Thanks to a 3X multiplier, the prize was improved from its original $1,000,000 payout to triple that.
The ticket was bought at a Bus Valley Trio at 5301 Bull Valley Road in McHenry, Illinois, and the ticket won the Tuesday, October 21 draw. Commenting on the news, Melisa Motroni, the store manager, said:
"Just last month, we sold a $10,000 winning scratch-off ticket, and now this — a $3 million winner. I guess you can say we’re a lucky store. Everyone’s excited to see who the winner is!"
The shop is also set to receive a $30,000 bonus, or 1% of the prize, as is customary for the Illinois Lottery.
"We have no idea who the winner is yet, but we’re all hoping it’s one of our regulars. We’re looking forward to celebrating this amazing win with them," Motroni added.
Illinois has habitually awarded big winners.
Several feel-good stories from the past weeks and months demonstrate the Prairie State’s soft spot for lottery games, including the $500,000 win by one Jessie, who won on Holiday Bucks and kicked off the holiday season early, and a father of five, who claimed another $550,000 prize.
