Tips lead police to illegal gambling den

Following tips from the public, officers with Constable Mark Herman’s Criminal Investigation Division initiated an investigation into a suspected illegal gambling establishment.

Law enforcement looked into a business at the 10700 block of FM 1960 Road in Huffman.

The undercover operation confirmed the reports previously received that the venue offered gambling activities illegally.

As a result, officers raided the location and shut it down, arresting one person.

Constable Mark Herman addressed the case in a press release saying: "Illegal gambling establishments operate contrary to the Peace and Dignity of the State of Texas. The proceeds generated from these businesses often fund serious criminal enterprises."

Moreover, Constable Herman wrote: "If you suspect illegal gambling in your community, please contact our office. All complaints and tips can be made anonymously."

At the illegal gambling venue, officers found and seized illegal gambling equipment, as well as documents confirming the outlet offered illegal gambling activities.

Moreover, investigators found and seized $3,000 in suspected illegal gambling proceeds.

One person, who was allegedly employed as a security guard at the illegal gambling venue, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance.

Police said the person didn’t have the required Texas state license to work as a security guard.

While the suspect is facing a Possession of a Controlled Substance charge, he may receive additional charges at a later period depending on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Law enforcement did not confirm how long the illegal gambling establishment operated before it was shut down.

"Illegal gambling establishments often serve as hubs for criminal activity and pose a significant threat to the safety of our communities," Constable Mark Herman’s announcement reads.

Finally, police vowed to continue to investigate and shut down illegal gambling venues across Harris County and Texas.
