A mother of five in North Carolina was screaming with joy after a $1 digital instant win brought her a mind-boggling $4.7m jackpot.

The fortunate winner from Elm City scored the big win late last week, the North Carolina Education Lottery said Monday.

The winner told her children, "We are millionaires!"

The incredibly fortunate woman decided to give the Lottery's Outlaw's Loot game a try.

The aforementioned game is the second digital instant multi-state game offered in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia.

As a multi-state digital instant game Outlaw's Loot jackpots can drop in any of the three states and the top prizes grow faster.

The latest $4.7m digital instant win marks the second-largest prize won from such a type of game in North Carolina since the state introduced such games in November 2023.

The woman scored the Grand Fortune jackpot from the Outlaw's Loot game while she was in bed.

Giving the game a try with a $1 ticket, she was shocked to realize that she had won $4.7m.

Recalling the moment after the big win, the woman said that she immediately called her children.

"I got them on a video call and told them, ‘We are millionaires. I kept yelling so they didn’t know what was going on," the lucky winner said.

Moreover, the Elm City resident pointed out: "It’s an amazing feeling. Now I can do a lot more."

The mother of five children, who recently became a grandmother, visited the Lottery headquarters on Monday to claim the big win.

After the relevant state and federal taxes, the winner's bank account increased by $3,374,512.

Asked if she had any plans regarding the unexpected windfall, the winner said she intends to buy a house for her family, invest and go on a vacation with her family.

Odds of winning the game's jackpot are 1 in 50m

The odds of winning the Grand Fortune jackpot from the Outlaw's Loot game on a $1 ticket are 1 in 50,000,000.

After the win, the jackpot was reset to $150,000. At the time of writing, the top prize from the popular multi-state digital instant game has reached an estimated $389,762.

Lottery players in North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Virginia can play Outlaw's Loot digital instant game with a price tag between $0.50 and $30 per play.

The overall odds of winning any prize from the popular game are 1 in 3.81.
