Lottery player in Georgia wins millions after quick store visit

A Georgia Lottery player has four million reasons to celebrate after dropping by at an Athens convenience store and walking away a multimillionaire.

The Georgia Lottery has reported the lucky event, sharing the details that were available, including the fact that the prize was already been claimed on Monday, September 21.

The person, however they were, won by playing the 200X The Money scratch-off game and bought their ticket at Kwik Stop Food Mart at 1880 Highway 29 North.

The prize was claimed as a one-off payment cash option, which further reduced it to $2,028,082 from the original $4,000,000 amount. However, the lottery withheld identifiable information about the winner.

What the lottery could share was rather cryptic, suggesting that the winner could be just about anyone - a co-worker, a neighbor, or an unusually cheerful person.

The Georgia Lottery has not released any further details regarding the win or the person. This is not the only big-win story from recent weeks.

Someone last month bought a Georgia Lottery scratch-off ticket and won the $3,000,000 top prize. The person had purchased their ticket at the Marathon Food Mart at 5700 Warm Springs Road in Columbus, and claimed the reward on August 31.

That person also opted for the one-off lump-sum cash payment, amounting to $1,546,986. Georgia Lottery players continue to claim millions worth of prizes every week, including scratch-off winnings.

Proceeds from the Georgia Lottery are used to fund education programs across the state, including the HOPE Scholarship Program and Georgia’s Pre-K Program.
