Illinois crowns new $850K lottery winner

The Illinois Lottery has crowned a new big-time winner in the state, after someone won Monday’s Lucky Day Lotto jackpot, which fetched the still anonymous winner a $850,000 payday.

The lottery released a press release informing the public about the win that occurred on May 12, whose winning numbers were 6-11-23-28-30. This is the largest prize to have been granted as part of the Monday drawing, as a total of 23,700 winning tickets were bought, with the total prizes reaching $917,000.

The total tickets sold for the game in 2025 alone have reached 3.8m, and the lottery has paid out more than $24.5m in prizes to winners. While the lottery has been happy to detail the fact that someone has won, it has refrained from offering more details for the time being.

The ticket was bought online, so there was no customary opportunity for the lottery officials to nip down to a retail store and interview the owners and staffers, and query them over whom they think has won.

So far, nobody has stepped forward to claim the reward, but, assuming the ticket has not been lost or forgotten (which will be difficult given that it’s an electronic one), one person will be getting very rich indeed!

Whoever won has the option to claim the prize in one go as a lump sum or opt for an annuity. Chances are, the person will scoop up whatever they can in one go, rather than wait to have annual instalments paid out to them.
