Historical horse racing (HHR) machines have been popular enough to draw sustained interest from punters. Now, though, one lucky guest has written history by winning the country’s largest HHR jackpot off a 25-cent wager at The Rose Gaming Resort in Dumfries, Virginia.
The resulting payout is $1,014,879, the largest jackpot ever paid by an HHR machine. The win pulled ahead of the $914,530 jackpot won back in 2021 at Rosie’s Hampton, and has set fresh excitement around HHRs. The Prince William County local was using one of the Rose’s Straight Cash HHR machines when they secured the win.
Horse racing machines are inspired by slot mechanics, but they use historical data on horse races that have already taken place, thus allowing themselves to occupy a legal spot in the gaming landscape.
The machines have attracted a diverse crowd of regular casino-goers, horse racing fans, and holidaymakers, all keen to try their luck at the slot-like devices. The latest payout further solidifies HHR machines as a source of substantial payout and amusing entertainment options.
The jackpot win was celebrated by The Rose Gaming Resort General Manager Bobbi Sample, who touted the role the venue had played in creating the important conditions that led to the payout:
"Your life can change with a single wager at The Rose. It’s fitting that the biggest jackpot in American history was won at America’s finest historical horse racing venue right here in Virginia."
