Help Washington
  • Washington’s tribes have come together to support a new campaign meant to bolster awareness about problem gambling in the state
  • Launched under the name "Bet on Your Self," the tribes hope to contribute to the communal effort of protecting consumers
  • The campaign also wants to break the stigma surrounding problem gambling and ensure that more people come forward to seek help

The Washington Indian Gaming Association (WIGA) has launched a new initiative to advance and strengthen responsible gambling efforts in the state.

Washington addresses problem gambling in time for Responsible Gaming Education Month.

Tribes rally around cause of responsible gambling

The association, which represents the 24 federally recognizedtribes in Washington, is pushing forward with this new campaign in a bid to boost statewide public awareness and help reduce the harms associated with gambling.

Called "Bet on Your Self" the campaign seeks to strengthen consumer safeguards by ensuring that the association’s responsible gambling message reaches more people and coincides with the beginning of Responsible Gaming Education Month.

WIGA Executive Director Rebecca George has welcomed the opportunity to see the campaign launch in a bid to strengthen the state’s protections and ensure that more people are aware of the downfalls of gambling.

Not only that, but WIGA is also seeking to connect people who already may be experiencing issues to the relevant treatment and help resources, and also help break the stigma around problem gambling.

Breaking down the stigma surrounding problem gambling

"We've made real progress breaking down the stigma around many mental health issues, but that stigma can still be a barrier when it comes to problem gambling. Bet on Your Self reminds people that hope and help are available, and that asking for help is a sign of strength," George said.

The campaign is launched as a limited-time initiative, and it will be available throughout September, seeking to help bolster the state’s efforts in preventing gambling harm.

Washington tribes have been committed participants in the communal effort to raise awarenessabout the issue, and they have participated in various initiatives beyond the information campaign.

WIGA’s latest campaign will be displayed across TV, YouTube, social media, and search engines in order to reach the most people possible.
