The Victorian Gambling and Casino Control Commission has appointed a new Chief Executive Officer to spearhead the division as the state and Australia as a whole face big changes in their gambling laws and regulations.

VGCCC appoints new CEO to lead the regulator

With numerous debates raging on, from taxation to the number of slot machines available across the nation, regulators have been scrambling to pass more consumer-focused measures that protect players from harm.

The VGCCC has now appointed Suzy Neilan, an experienced leader with more than 20 years of senior executive expertise under her belt. She has worked in both the private and public sector, and comes from the Environment Protection Authority Victoria (EPA), where she spent 3.5 years.

VGCCC Chair Chris O’Neill has welcomed the appointment of Neilan, arguing that the regulator stands to benefit from her expertise and track record.IN a comment, O’Neill noted:

"As the VGCCC enters the next phase of the program of transformation we began three years ago, Suzy’s experience leading digital and technology transformation, and her deep understanding of education, enforcement and compliance will continue to ensure the Commission is well placed to meet future challenges and ensure the integrity, safety and fairness of the gambling industry."

Her arrival comes at a time when the VGCCC is actively looking to construct a regulatory framework that directly benefits Victorians, which makes Neilan's appointment a perfect fit.

Neilan is also replacing Annette Kimmitt, the outgoing incumbent who has helped the commission go through one of its most ambitious transformations and shift in overall focus and practices.

A well-seasoned public and private-sector leader

Neilan is due to take over as the head of the VGCCC come April 1, 2025, giving her enough time to settle into her new position and spearhead consumer-focused initiatives.

Neilan previously served various roles in organizations such as the Victorian Building Authority, Infringement Management Enforcement Services at Tenix Solutions, and the Department of Justice, making her a uniquely placed individual to understand the complexities of gaming regulation and the need for a robust regulatory framework.
