Stake has acquired a license from the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC), which will allow the company to move forward with its plans to launch in the newly regulated provincial iGaming market, the second in Canada to allow private operators.
Commenting on this opportunity, Stake Canada Country Manager Kris Abbott explained that the company has focused on building one of the world’s most recognizable brands in the online gaming space by virtue of how it does things differently.
"Our planned entry into Alberta represents an exciting milestone step for us in Canada – we are not here to blend in. We are here to raise the bar and bring the distinctive Stake experience to Alberta’s highly engaged player audience," Abbott added.
Stake Canada Board Member Birgitte Sand has also welcomed the monumental achievement that is securing licensing in Alberta, further proof of the company’s commitment to Canada.
"We commend the Alberta government, the AGLC and the AiGC for their work to establish Alberta’s regulated iGaming framework," Sand added. Stake has been methodically developing its offer across the globe, North America included, and Canada in particular.
The company is already available in Ontario, and the new license acquisition in Alberta allows it to expand on the lessons learned in that jurisdiction and apply them nearly at the onset of the regulated market in the new province.
"Stake has built one of the world's most recognizable brands in online gaming by doing things differently. We move faster, we build bigger, and we create an entertainment experience that genuinely shapes internet and sports culture," Abbott explained.
