Microgaming has introduced a new, groundbreaking mechanic that will level up the known Hold & Spin experience. Debuted on Wednesday, April 29, the Link & Merge feature has already been introduced across a selection of the studio’s games, and is set to continue expanding further.

Microgaming expands original game features with Link & Merge launch

Among the games to get the first treatment are Almighty Zeus Wilds Link & Merge, Lucky Twins Link & Merge, and 123 Soccer Link & Merge. The feature works refreshingly. By getting five adjacent Coin symbols, a "link" will be formed, resulting in a bonus payout.

These bonus payouts can be a jackpot, a multiplier, or a so-called spread. By merging the initial symbols, further merges can occur in the newly opened slots, where more Coin symbols may drop right after the fact, leading to even higher payouts and gameplay boosts.

Microgaming commented on the feature, touting the Link & Merge mechanic as a highly original and impactful solution that is set to significantly enhance the player experience.

"Each merge has the potential to change the shape of the feature, open up newopportunities, and keep the round moving in a way that feels both familiar and fresh," the company said in a statement.

Three new games seek to showcase the strength of the new mechanic

The launch of three games at the same time as announcing the brand-new feature is an expression of the studio’s confidence in the success of the new mechanic, as well as an opportunity to give it "a much bigger stage."

Each of the three games is set to appeal to a slightly different audience, at least thematically, while still offering an opportunity for the mechanic to be shown in its full glory.

123 Soccer specifically develops a more "energetic, tournament-inspired edge," the company said, while all three games are built as cluster win payout grids, with Wild Meter progressions, Free Spins, and Multiplier Trail, the company said.
