Light & Wonder, a manufacturer of advanced land-based and digital gaming solutions for the gambling industry, is moving forward with a deal with Norwegian Cruise Line, which will see the former’s products installed onboard the operator’s ships.

Light & Wonder installs Wide Area Progressives on Norwegian’s cruise ships

In this specific case, Light & Wonder will leverage its Wide Area Progressive table games across its 18 cruise ships, with a total of 200 GM Atlas systems installed as per the terms of the initial deal.

The underpinning technology will allow the game machines to operate together no matter where the cruise ships are, for the most part, as confirmed by Norwegian VP of Gaming Ian Donald, and bring an exciting experience to travelers who have been asking for even more amenities to enjoy onboard the ships.

Although gambling has been gathering momentum rather slowly among cruise liners, today it seems to be the norm, with the world’s leading cruise liners choosing to introduce more gambling opportunities for their customers.

Light & Wonder Americas Managing Director Niaz Nejad has hailed the opportunity and its broader impact, adding that the company was very excited to work with the cruise liner and install Operator Wide Area Progressive table games for the company.

Gambling is increasingly popular with cruise liners around the world

However, Norwegian already has a great selection of gambling products, and the addition of Light & Wonder’s products further fleshes it out. Presently, the company sports some 4,800 slot machines and each casino offers credit to qualified passengers, along with ATMs available at every gaming floor.

Norwegian has chosen the name "Casinos At Sea" for its gaming floors and is keen to continue adding to its portfolio. The majority of cruise operators worldwide do offer these solutions, including companies such as Royal Caribbean International, Carnival Cruise Line, and others.
